Abstract

This case study describes how the team in Torbay working on the Health Foundation's Co-creating Health programme split the self-management support programme into 'bronze', 'silver' and 'gold' to enable more people to attend. The team recognised that time constraints and the pressure of work made it difficult for health professionals to attend training in self-management support, which involved 3 half-day sessions over three months. In response, they split the programme into 'bronze', 'silver' and 'gold', each requiring a different time commitment. The approach has been well received. Whilst the 'bronze' session is felt to only provide a 'flavour' of self-management support, it is used as an introduction to self-management support in a range of settings and has led to health professionals subsequently signing up to the gold programme.
