Abstract

This case study describes how the team in Ayrshire and Arran working on the Health Foundation's Co-creating Health programme set up a buddy scheme for people with long term conditions. It looks at how the team in Ayrshire and Arran worked with MacMillan Buddy Trainers to adapt the training programme to develop self-management buddies for COPD and Diabetes patients. Advertising the scheme in local papers led to only limited uptake. In order to utilise the skills and time of the buddies, their role has been extended and they also link into the local 'Moving on Together' programme which provides people with training to self-manage.
