The development of this guide reflects the commitment of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada to develop and implement a practical work-based assessment system for residents in training and specialists in practice. Although many areas discussed in this guide reflect assessment strategies already in place, it promotes the development of a practical and integrated approach to assessment and identifies areas where further change is required.
