Abstract

The recognition of actual and potential deficits in quality in health care has prompted health care organisations to introduce a wide range of initiatives and programmes. Many of these approaches have drawn on quality improvement models which originated outside health care.

This systematic narrative review seeks to understand what approaches exist, their relative strengths and weaknesses when used to inform quality improvement in health care, and their potential for application in the organisations that make up NHS Scotland.
