This briefing provides an overview on hepatitis C for sexual health promoters working with gay men, bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (MSM). Hepatitis C is a viral infection of the liver which can have serious consequences, especially if it is left untreated. While injecting drug users (and haemophiliacs) are more commonly co-infected with hepatitis C and HIV, an increasing number of MSM with diagnosed HIV are acquiring hepatitis C through sex. This briefing concentrates on hepatitis C, with some comparison to the key characteristics of hepatitis A and B.
