Abstract

This briefing provides a summary of new Department of Health guidance on minimising the use of restrictive practices, highlighting what it means for providers in practice. The guidance is aimed at promoting the development of therapeutic environments so that restrictive practices are only used as a last resort and prone (face-down) restraint ended. It is part of a wider two-year initiative – the Positive and Safe programme – to deliver this transformation across all health and adult social care.
