These guidelines describe the four minimum standards of care for people with diabetes living in care homes and include background information for those caring for people with diabetes. They have been updated to ensure that people in care homes have access to screening for diabetes and receive high quality care and education in line with the national recommendations and standards of care for diabetes. The aim is to reduce the risks of their developing complications and to optimise the quality of their lives.
The document is a resource for those working in care homes and explains the links that need to be made with other healthcare professionals. It will also be available to people with diabetes and their families.
