This guidance for social workers and social care staff registered with the Social Care Council in Northern Ireland on how to raise a concern in their workplace. It guides registrants to upholding standards of ethical behaviour and professional accountability when they may be in danger of being undermined by other pressures. It also sets out how to raise concerns when the safety or quality of care is or could be at risk. It describes what is meant by ‘raising a concern’, why it is important, and provides a step-by-step guide to raising a concern. Additional advice is also included for employers and managers. The guide should be read alongside ‘Guidance for Whistleblowers: guidance for social care staff who wish to make a protected disclosure’, published by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council in 2014.
