Abstract

This issue of Pain: Clinical Updates reviews the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of temporomandibular muscle and joint disorders (TMJDs). Typical signs of this subtype of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) include joint noise, tenderness of masticatory muscles and joints, and pain, limitation, and deviation in the range of motion of the mandible, while the most common symptoms include jaw pain, facial pain, headache, distressing or disturbing joint noises, and difficulty with jaw function.
