Abstract

Pain associated with disease from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is common and multifactorial, with different causes possible at different stages of the disease. A frequent cause of pain at all stages of the disease is neuropathic pain associated with a symmetrical sensory polyneuropathy. These HIV-associated sensory neuropathies (HIVSNs) are attributable to HIV itself and to some HIV treatments.
