Abstract

The study, which was commissioned by the PSNC from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) following the Government’s proposals to reduce community pharmacy funding, analysed the value to the NHS, public sector organisations, patients and wider society of 12 services across public health, self-care support and medicines support.  The services included provision of emergency hormonal contraception, needle and syringe programmes, supervised consumption (for example of methadone), minor ailments advice, managing prescription errors/clarifying prescriptions, medicines adjustments, delivering prescriptions, managing drug shortages, sustaining supply of medicines in emergencies, Medicines Use Reviews (MUR), and the New Medicine Service (NMS).
