Abstract

(2015) Guideline 143: Diagnosis and management of epilepsy in adults - Full guideline. The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) develops evidence based clinical practice guidelines for the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland. SIGN guidelines are derived from a systematic review of the scientific literature and are designed as a vehicle for accelerating the translation of new knowledge into action to meet our aim of reducing variations in practice, and improving patient-important outcomes.

The guideline makes evidence-based recommendations covering all aspects of diagnosis and management of adults with epilepsy including a completely revised section on epilepsy and women’s health and new sections covering psychiatric comorbidity, sleep, and mortality (including sudden unexpected death in epilepsy). It also provides information for discussion with people with epilepsy and their carers.
