Abstract

This paper builds on a review of public involvement in Scottish Maternity Services undertaken in 20071 by the Scottish Government convened Maternity Services Action Group. The main recommendations in this paper take account of current and proposed policy changes in the delivery and planning of care; revisions in assessment mechanisms and developments in good practice; engagement mechanisms; and research evidence, which will enable and support involvement. A framework is proposed for service user involvement in maternity services that represents best practice, and links to existing patient feedback mechanisms and evidence.
