Aims: Cough is the most common symptom for which individuals seek medical advice. An acute cough is often the most prominent symptom of the common cold, which itself is the most frequent illness to afflict mankind. These guidelines aim to provide recommendations for cough assessment, and consensus regarding the diagnosis and treatment of cough in both adults and children.
